Even if you own your home, sometimes you don’t want to stick nails in your door. I know I don’t want to. And if you’re a renter, you don’t even have a choice. So how do you hang a garland around a door without nails?
These garland holders by the Village Lighting Company are a great alternative. It is a patented design that works using horizontal pressure to hold the hanger up. The pads on the ends of the hanger ensure that there is no damage to your door frame. They are truly removable and reusable. They hold garlands up to 20 pounds.
These hangers are not suitable for screen doors or doors that open outwards. Also, you need to have at least 2.25 inches of available doorjamb for the pads to be fitted against.
Pros
- Removable, reusable
- Holds garlands up to 20 pounds
- Durable cast iron, powder coated to prevent rust
- Rubber end pads protect your door frame
- Warranty of 1 year
Cons
- Will not work with a screen door
- Installation is easy, but like anything, the first time you use the hanger, you need to concentrate. If you have room, I’d suggest storing the hanger after loosening it just a little. Then next year you just need to tighten it up again!

How To Install V-20529
Step-By-Step Directions
A set of 2 wrenches of appropriate size will be included with the hanger. You may need a screwdriver, but the lady in the video doesn’t seem to need one.
Putting The Hanger Together
There are 2 rods, one (on the left in door scene in the video) is the fixed-length rod, and the other rod is designed to adjust to fit the hanger to your door.
The Non-Extension Rod
- Insert the fixed-length square rod (B) into the wing frame (D) with the wing facing away. This rod has multiple screw holes. For most doors, you’ll use the first screw hole. If you need to, use the second or third hole.
- Slide the end pad (E) vertically into the opposite end of the wing frame (D).
- Insert one of the screws (H) to hold the end pad. Screw on the nut, using your screwdriver if you need to.
The Extension Rod
- Repeat this process with the other wing frame (D) using the adjustable extension square rod (C).
Pulling The Hanger Together
- Slide the center garland support (F) onto the center frame (A).
- Once it is centered, tighten the wing bolt.
- Slide each of the rods into the center frame.
- Insert the last screw (I) into the fixed-length (non-extension) rod.
- Screw on the nut, using your screwdriver if you need to.
Installing The Hanger
- Ensure that the area on the door frame where the end pads will sit is clean.
- Place the hanger on the ground in front of the door where you are installing it.
- Loosen the locking bolts in the extension arm.
- Adjust the width using the two bolts so that the hanger just barely fits inside the door frame.
- Lift the hanger to its final spot at the top of the door, and hold it with one hand.
- Using your other hand, tighten the bolts as much as you can by hand.
- Use one of the included wrenches to tighten the inside locking bolt until the hanger is securely wedged in the door frame.
- Once the hanger is secure in the door frame, tighten the outside locking bolt against the lock washer.
To Hang Your Garland
- Rest the center of the garland on the middle hanger.
- Lift one side of the garland and hook it behind the side support.
- Do the same with the other side of the garland.
