‘Tis the season for crafting! One of the most popular Christmas crafts is the wreath. You’ve probably seen them everywhere, hanging on doors, on fireplace mantles, and even in stores as decoration. But have you ever thought about making your own wreath?
It’s actually not as difficult as it looks. In this blog post, we’ll show you how to make a traditional Christmas wreath step by step. This wreath is made with greenery from your garden and is a truly seasonal decoration.
Even if you’re not a crafter, we think you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make a beautiful wreath that you can be proud of.
You’ll Need:
- Wire wreath frame, any size
- Green floral or paddle wire
- Pruners
- Evergreen foliage, such as blue spruce, conifer
- Colored and berry-bearing foliage, such as holly
- Branches, such as dogwood
- Pinecones
- Seasonal fruits
- Other decorations
Step-By-Step Instructions
- Trim greenery into pieces proportional to the frame.
- Place each type of material into a separate pile.
- Without cutting, wrap the wire around the frame 3 to 4 times.
- Select a piece of each material to form a bundle. Keep the largest items at the back and the colorful pieces at the front.
- Place the bundle against the frame on the wrapped wire.
- Wrap the wire around the lower section 3 times.
- Place the next bundle overlapping against the frame on the wrapped wire. Angle this bundle a little to the outside.
- Wrap the wire around the lower section 3 times.
- Place the next bundle overlapping against the frame on the wrapped wire. Angle this bundle a little to the inside.
- Repeat the process of bundling and tying, overlapping each bundle over the next to hide the wire and alternating between angling the bundles to the inside and outside.
- When you’ve reached the other side, make a smaller bundle.
- Tuck it under the first bundle and secure it carefully with wire.
- If necessary, add another smaller bundle.
- Turn the wreath over.
- Cut the wire.
- Tuck the end of the wire into the frame.
